❝I don't know what's scarier: the fact that everyone in this kingdom wants to run a sword through my heart... or that sometimes, I just wanna let 'em.❞

I can't lie, I had pretty high expectations going into this, and while Nimona is enjoyable, it's not as good as I had imagined.
First of all, I'm super happy it got revitalised after Disney tried to tank it, and I love the queer representation, but the plot is really formulaic and the dialogue is so reminiscent of Tumblr. Now, I know the film's target audience is kids, but it's hard to sit through some of the 'rawr XD rofl' humour without cringing (and trust me, I was a teen who used to say the same things). I did really like the world-building and location designs; the mix of medieval style and futuristic technology is so cool.
Then, the animation; while it's cute and the character designs are awesome, the animation isn't the greatest. It looks a little unfinished/unpolished in a lot of scenes, which is a shame because it could've worked even better with the general atmosphere.
On the whole, the voice cast did an excellent job, especially Riz Ahmed and Eugene Lee Yang, and I felt that their voices fit their respective characters very well.
I'll admit, I did cry a little watching Nimona's flashback, and though I have my grievances, I still enjoyed watching this film.
