Meh, if you’ve seen one Charlie Chaplin movie, you’ve seen them all. They all revolve around slapstick humor and falling for a random girl. I will not give an old movie its due credit unless it has stood the test of time and this one really hasn’t. It’s the same thing with every single movie he makes. It feels like they don’t really have a soul. Chaplin plays the same exact character every time, it’s just repetitive and boring. I really can’t say much else on it except I wasn’t the biggest enjoyer of this one. It follows the same ticky tack script as the rest, I shit you not, he’s eaten a shoelace in a different movie other than this one. I’ll probably never circle around to the one.

Charlie Chaplin once said he wanted to be remembered for this film, and I completely understand why. This is Chaplin at his best. He’s charming and funny, and the writing is excellent. The film is hilarious, especially the cabin scenes. I love those moments, particularly the one where his friend keeps trying to eat him because he's hungry and the scene where the cabin is hanging off a cliff after the storm, man those scenes are hillarious.The romance is great, and the sad moments had me tearing up a bit. Overall, this is an incredible film, I connected with it really well and had a fantastic time watching it. It’s just that good! Highly recommended

It’s hilarious that the shoe eating scene took 63 takes and over three days to shoot, leading to Chaplin being hospitalized for insulin shock due to high sugar intake…. Just a pretty cool fun fact. (There’s a weird sadness behind the comedy of the Tramp/“Lone Prospecter” that I can’t wait to learn more about)
