Has everything that usually makes these movies so good, great characters and a solid plot, but somehow just doesn’t do enough with it. Feels more like a play with the way the dialogue is conveyed at points. I think also the entire climax taking place in a small room for 25ish minutes just takes so much away from it.

While that’s pretty negative, I’ll say again the characters are so good with Cairo and Gutman being such freaks and the plot is a solid mystery with so many moving parts. Also I think Humphrey Bogart is in that small, great list of actors that can just do anything. He’s so charismatic in every role you just want to see him interact with everyone they throw at him.

recently had to read the big sleep for this very class, and i found that i like watching noir at lot more than i like reading it. the moody tones and crooked fedoras of the films make it so much better. i just love the falcon as an object. that realization that it's lead hits every time. what a fun and well-set-up film.

I mean it was a good film. It had a good plot with some good twist and turns. But it lacked any significant thematic themes to make it really stand out. Characters also weren’t the best and Miles Archer wife was such a random added dynamic to the story and she was never fully developed. Still good film it just lacked any sort of significant thematic themes and the characters weren’t convincing.
