❝Years ago, you asked me what two men could do living together on a ranch. I'll answer you now. They can look after one another, protect each other. They can keep each other company.❞

There was a good idea somewhere in here, but it just wasn't developed or written well enough to translate into the final product.
This should've been a full feature-length film, though the similarities between this and Brokeback Mountain are insurmountable. Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal are a winning combination, and really saved this film, although I don't know why Ethan was doing his best Batman impression the whole way through. The people chosen for the roles of young Silva and Jake weren't great, and clearly models chosen to show off the clothing rather than act (although the costumes were undoubtedly gorgeous). There were some beautiful shots, but ultimately not enough to boost the film, and the ending was so abrupt and inefficacious.
Altogether, Strange Way of Life has compelling promise but ultimately fails to deliver, and unless you're a Pedro or Ethan fan, I wouldn't urge you to give it a watch.
