**One Year One Film (16/116)**
Can’t lie, that face reveal creeped me out real bad. This isn’t like any other film I’ve seen from this time period. The way they play with colors here was amazing! The tinted scenes really added to the mood, and I was surprised to find a technicolor sequence from such an old film. Set and production design was hella impressive as well, I could really feel the glamour of the opera house.

it's... fine. first silent movie i've watched that i wasn't impressed with. obviously lon chaney is impressive but i just feel bad for the phantom more than anything. (maybe it's bc i just watched the elephant man lol) first phantom adaptation where i actually feel genuine pity for the phantom! and it was barely intended. maybe it's because they made him genuinely grotesque rather than just a hot guy with half of his face gone. that humanesque mask was fr creepy though 

highlights:- two grown men walking into a booth, see a dude in a coat just watching the opera, and run SCREAMING (IT MUST BE THE PHANTOM!!!)- the phantom's CRAZY DRIP at the masquerade ball??? where did he get that from??????

The sets and costumes are stunning. You can really tell the amount of effort that was put into this. All of the acting is done really well. There could have maybe been more to the characters but I appreciate that this is a silent film so there is only so much they could do.
