This movie makes ZERO sense. For some reason, Metropolis/New York is shown on the poster even though it is NEVER a setting in the film, not ONCE. Chicago is the only big city in the movie. That definitely threw me off. I mean for the most part this is just silly nonsense. It’s a strange spin-off that was made purely for the reason to try and bounce back from the downward spiral that the Superman franchise was experiencing at the time. Unfortunately, it just continued that downward trend. Usually I would be more receptive to a silly movie such as this, but I don’t know, this was just really difficult to get through. It dragged on, it was overlong, and it was genuinely boring. There was little to no action in this too. The biggest action sequence isn’t even that great, especially compared to the larger scaled ones of the Superman movies. This feels much less like a superhero/action movie and more like a strange sci-fi comedy. I almost feel like the makers of this film thought that the iconography of the suit and the S and the whole concept of Supergirl would do the heavy lifting and in a sense it sort of does, but everything else is so insanely messy that is just doesn’t work in my opinion. I do really like Faye Dunaway’s performance in this though, she’s crazy!!! After a while, however, I just stopped caring about that stupid ball everybody was fighting over. Everything became way too complicated and stupid and I was just ready for it to be over. Perhaps I’m being too harsh, but this just didn’t do anything for me really. It’s just a subpar version of the Superman movies with no action and worse visual effects.
