a beautiful film about how a woman who previously could not imagine another life breaks out of the patriarchal framework and starting a new chapter. despite my prejudices about hippie culture, I was impressed by the tenacity and freedom that permeated every aspect of this film. I was surprised that this already highlights the devaluation of the lesbian experience and its reduction to frivolity. at first, Eve's husband doesn't take her love for Liliana seriously; to him, it's just a game or a fashion statement. but they are so powerful for Eve that they enable her to rethink who she is and significantly change her outlook on life. every time I see Maria Schneider on screen, I'm delighted because of her unique energy. she was also bisexual and openly talked about her attraction to both women and men, and it's nice when a movie role reflects a person's experience.
‘I feel like she personified the time: she was free, she was bisexual, she was really happy to be part of something that was daring‘ - Molly Ringwald
