Strange to watch this on a Kubrick binge because you really can tell it’s not the product of his mind. It’s a solid Hollywood epic, packed with unreal performance and breathtaking set designs, it’s certainly nothing special but it works. Without the creative control that defined the rest of his work, there’s very little of the precision nor personality that makes his films work so fucking well. Pretty standard major scale Hollywood epic but it’s immensely entertaining for at least half of its far too long runtime.
