In the city of Oedo 2808a.d., three Cyber criminals are given two choices, to either rot in jail or to join a special force of the Cyber Police to get possibly one more chance at freedom ever again. For each criminal apprehended, and for each successful mission done, the state will agree to reduce their sentences. Lead by Hasegawa, the new recruits: Sengoku, Gogul, and Benton will bring some hard justice to Oedo and possibly taste freedom again.

Surprisingly tame for Kawajiri standards, but this is still a very enjoyable 3 part OVA, that gets better with every episode, culminating in a fascinating merge of cyberpunk and gothic vampire horror.
All of the three main characters and their individual cases are interesting, I love how they all have their own relevant side characters in their storylines and I also enjoy the „haunted by the past“ theme that seems to stretch through the entire OVA.
Overall I believe this would’ve benefited from having more episodes, but I still enjoyed this immensely.

A fun OVA. Brilliant action, and the English dub is GOATED. One of those rare occasions where the dub surpasses the original Japanese dialogue. Some great one-liners, too.

If I lived in this horrible supernatural cyberpunk future, I'd probably say "fuck" a lot too. Some call Cyber City Oedo 808 too edgy because of how vulgar the language is, but I personally love how over-hardboiled this is. Emphasizes the style-over-substance that cyberpunk can thrive on and boy is this stylish, so its no surprise that Yoshiaki Kawajiri, director of Ninja Scroll and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is responsible for this. It's so stylish that, despite the three stories including ghosts, psychics, and vampires, it's still cyberpunk as hell and each story gets better than the last.
