I kind of started a Friday the 13th tradition last year, where every Friday the 13th, I try to watch at least one of the films until I finally complete the franchise (although I’ve already seen all of them). But this film is so terrible, I actually forgot that I spent 90 minutes watching it just 5 hours ago and didn’t write a review.

It’s actually the biggest joke in the franchise. I think it’s fairly public knowledge that The Final Chapter killed Jason, and Jason Lives resurrects him. Which leaves us with a gap here with A New Beginning, which has a copycat killer that is as equally stupid as it is terrible. The nudity is this is so overly gratuitous. The amount of lingering shots on naked women is exhausting. It isn’t art, it’s disgustingly objectifying, and it isn’t the first and isn’t nearly the last time where we can clearly tell the crew was beyond horny in the writing room and on set. But gratuitous nudity aside, the MPAA heavily censored this film, like in many of the future installments. So when you don’t even have nearly enough gore to save this film, it leaves you with a terrible film that’s forgettable, and dreadful to watch. Why did I put myself through this again?

To be honest, I absolutely loved this movie! It's the ultimate slasher horror from the 80s, and I'm a big fan of every aspect of it! I understand that some people don't enjoy it because they miss a certain somebody, but in my opinion, it's one of the top films in the franchise. I'm not saying it's perfect; the plot and story could have been stronger, the transformation of Tommy Jarvis into Bruce Lee was absurd, and some of the kills felt underwhelming because they were mostly off-screen or the camera quickly moved to the next shot. However, the characters and the humor in the movie really made up for these shortcomings, which is why I found it so enjoyable!

Also, Reggie “The Reckless” might be my all-time favorite character, honestly it's a toss-up between him and Tommy Jarvis aka ‘Bruce Leroy’. The scene I loved the most was when Reggie spotted Jason face to face with Pam, and Reggie sprinted right into the woods leaving Pam by herself with Roy/Jason. It was a scene that made me burst into tears from laughter. I probably replayed that moment over 5 or 6 times, Reggie wasn't messing around! I really liked how he crashed into Roy/Jason with a tractor in a way that could've (but really should’ve) ended his life, and how he gave Roy/Jason a serious shoulder check in the barn.

All in all, it's a pretty under-appreciated entry of the franchise. A lot of the dislike comes from those who were bummed about the twist, which could have been dealt with better, but still, it's a solid and enjoyable slasher. Definitely the funniest one in the whole franchise.

Yeah this is my least favorite in the franchise so far
the plot and characters in this one were pretty dull and the kills just seemed lazy and kept repeating like the previous ones
Hopefully it won't get worse than this
