The animation has definitely elevated from the first. The world building was given much more personality, with additional details like reflections of the sky and moon from water. This film also has a more built in systematic story rather than random occurring events which could better for most but to me it doesn’t quite work as well. Especially for the world that’s built. The film is noticeably longer than the first and I say noticeably because while watching you could definitely feel the runtime.
The story of Tux and Fanny helping lost souls reconnect with life although they’re gone is a comforting and emotional. Birney tries to give the world a bright and uplifting look on death, showing after death all hope isn’t lost. How death could be the most beautiful thing that life has to offer. Since the concept itself seems frightening at first, the addition of a ghost mourning in the earth realm gives a deep understanding of how the living can still make a difference for the dead.
There’s a lot of existentialism talk in this film which gives us ideas to run on but I don’t find it as effective. Because Tux usually blurts it out straight to the audience rather than allowing us to intake said events for us to put the pieces together. I feel it to be more effective for us to put pieces together rather than be given answers is because the more we watch and analyze and experience the world of Tux and Fanny, the more we should be able to develop on our own to broaden our knowledge of what it means to live.
