I was lowkey hating on this the entire time I was watching it and I still don't love it but I will admit that the ending does give the rest some real structural ingenuity. A real love letter to the genre, if pretty silly. I do admit to feeling some sort of satisfaction that the ending ultimately echoed how ridiculous I felt the 'holy' treatment of comic books was.
I still think that it's fairly over-directed - although that does make it distinctive enough to attract interest, and I'm pretty sure that's part of the appeal for most people. For me, though, it wasn't quite enough to be hyper-stylized in a way that I do generally enjoy, so instead it just felt unnecessary and almost obnoxious (maybe saying that makes me obnoxious tho. idk). Combine that with me being fairly bored for most of the time, and I didn't love it. Maybe I'm just lame and boring. I did love the hyper-grounded approach, though. Made it a lot more interesting and distinct. I think there's a lot I could like about this, but I was just so bored the entire time I just could not make myself care. Maybe it's just superhero burnout, or my brain's been fried from years of the MCU. Who knows. Oh well.
