i have so much love for the iliad and the odyssey, so much so that i don't think i will ever truly like any screen adaptation of it. the odyssey is a very difficult text to adapt well.
this adaptation is heavily carried by fiennes and binoche's incredible acting and screen presence that elevate the entire film, i love their takes on odysseus and penelope. the brute physicality of fiennes added so much to his performance; he is truly a masterful actor.
this is a fairly decent adaptation, but the pacing becomes tedious; however, the final 20 minutes and odysseus slaying the suitors was excellent. this film is stripped of the mythology of homer's works, so it's hard to see past just a bunch of barely clothed men hanging out on an island. i also don't like the characterisation of telemachus in this film either.
"your past will be my past, and mine yours. we will remember, and we will forget, together. and then we'll live, together"
