I think during COVID we should’ve demanded to know Sean Connery’s prison workout routine that allowed him the stamina to break into Alcatraz after 30 years of sitting in a dark room

A rogue general invades Alcatraz and demands $100 million or he will shoot chemical weapons at San Francisco so they get former inmate Sean Connery to show them through the tunnels but then it's only him and Nicolas Cage but then before that they add character depth by adding people they care about in San Francisco like their family members and Nicolas Cage's wife is pregnant but when he calls her she hangs up the phone cause she's mad at him so now she doesn't know to leave San Francisco and Sean Connery manages to escape to see his daughter but his daughter is mad at him but on the way to see his daughter he drives a tank down really hilly streets and causes lots of explosions including a cable car that goes off the rails which was pretty wild but it wasn't as big as the explosion at the end where Nicolas Cage holds out flares while there were jets flying over him because that was pretty cool and Michael Bay likes things that look pretty cool and Ed Harris also likes things that look pretty cool otherwise he would have blown up San Francisco but luckily he didn't but instead his guys are like well if you don't blow up San Francisco we will and he's like well I am your commanding officer and they're like well no you're not because we aren't in the military anymore and he's like oh shit and gets shot and then Nicolas Cage and Sean Connery are like we did it but Sean Connery probably has to go back to jail so Nic Cage is like he's dead so then Sean Connery is like go to this church in Iowa and Nic Cage is like what and Connery is like trust me and he goes to the church and looks in a corner and finds the missing part of the Zapruder film and is like hey girl you wanna know who shot JFK and they drive off into the sunset.

What a perfect action movie. The Rock might just be one of my new favorites in terms of rewatchability and just having a fun time. The duo of Nicolas Cage and Sean Connery was everything I hoped it would be, and Ed Harris always plays such a good villain. Watching Michael Bay become Michael Bay is so funny looking back on, because some of the explosions are so ridiculously him, but there was never a dull moment and the visuals were stunning. 

Cage and Connery were so fucking funny. Obviously the “winners go home and fuck the prom queen” line is one of Connery’s most famous ever, but all of his quips along side Nic Cage Caging out was too good. I really loved their chase scene through SF and Goodspeed covering for Mason in front of his daughter, which was the first real sign that the two respected each other more so than any other duo. All of Mason’s knowledge of the prison was super impressive and made for some awesome stunts. The shootout among the mercenaries while Mason and Goodspeed watched might have been my favorite though.

With this being a Hans Zimmer score, I swear I heard a bit of what would turn into the Pirates theme throughout. He is an absolute genius, and the sounds of this movie helped make it into such a joy to watch. Bay and Zimmer are as great of a duo as they come, and Bruckheimer is such a great producer with these kinds of action movies.

I need to catch up on my Connery movies. This will finally be what gets me to go back and do all of Bond. Either way, The Rock was incredible and maybe the perfect plane movie.
