“the time to make up your mind about people is never.”
the philadelphia story is my favorite film of all time. it’s the first old hollywood movie i watched in my film class my freshman year of high school and it made me fall in love with old hollywood and everything that goes with it. this film mostly made me fall in love with cary grant and made me admire katharine hepburn so much. she’s genuinely so talented and beautiful and so funny omg one of the best comediennes of all time. and ofc it’s directed by one of the best directors of all time my king george cukor <3
as i mentioned earlier this film made me fall in love with katharine hepburn. after this i immediately watched as many of her films as i could find. i can’t believe they ever called her “box office poison” i can think of many other actresses who i feel would fit this more but i won’t cause im nice. but just omg it doesn’t matter what leading man she’s acting besides she always carries every single film on her back. she’s so extremely beautiful in this film. i love her hair and all her outfits in this especially her wedding dress. and ofc her iconic pants that she wore. she’s the definition of what a feminist should be like.
cary grant i genuinely have no words. the first old hollywood guy i fell for. while he’s no longer my favorite he will always have a special place in my heart. he’s so adorable in this. he’s so cute and funny and just so talented i love him.
jimmy stewart i also absolutely love you omg. jimmy is my moms favorite actor of all time. i grew up watching him in the film it’s wonderful life and i never really appreciated his talent until i first watched this. he’s adorable and such an amazing comedian like he’s so underrated. this is my favorite film he’s in tbh.
okay i want to just say how much i absolutely LOVE virginia weidler. she’s so freaking talented like she’s one of the best child actresses ever. she’s so funny and so cute. i also adore her in the women as well. when she was in a scene it honestly made it like 100x better tbh. her singing is one of the best scenes in this film.
okay another underrated actress is ruth hussey. she is such a talented comedienne. she delivers her lines absolutely perfect. every time she speaks i laugh out loud ngl. she’s beautiful and i wish she had more screentime.
thank you for listening to my little rant. if you haven’t watched this film you absolutely should. it’s a literal masterpiece.
“oh it's all right, tracy. we all go haywire at times and if we don't, maybe we ought to”
