I quite liked this. Could see it in a real world and I think there’s great performances from Russel Crowe and Catherine ZJones. Good half twist got me too, even if I was left a little confused

Great cast, boring story, nothing to say.
Thought it was a bit ironic that Mark Wahlberg’s character literally made money by catching cheaters just to have his wife cheat on him💀

Allen Hughes’ first solo feature (we’re quite a few years from the dizzy heights of ‘Dead Presidents’) is a well-shot, dramatically confusing, and not as grungy as it should probably be tale of police and political corruption populated by a lot of really unpleasant characters (even Griffin Dunne!). Russell Crowe is in low-register, maximum threat mode, while Mark Wahlberg is in a similar register, but with more disassociation.
It looks pretty good, but feels a little too friction-free for it’s characters to slide back and forth the streets and the ballrooms of NYC for their movements to have enough dramatic heft. And some of the dialogue is, honestly, pretty clunky.
