Dirty Harry 1971 by Don Siegel is a great little unknown in the Harry Callaghan Franchise and I will review the others next week as I watch them. ****

I think Clint Eastwood is a great lead in this movie his husky low tone voice is great as the intimidating Callaghan and the catchphrases are ones that i and we have known for years but did not know they came from this movie for example do you feel lucky punk? and the additional of Andrew Robinson as the Scorpio Killer is a great great bad guy .

There is one scene in particular that Robinson goes great I will not spoil it for people who have not seen it but I will give a clue it involves a yellow school bus. Enough said!!

The only thing I would say about this movie is there is some scenes that I feel are not needed to be included such as the long ass running scene which could have been split up a bit better but I understand why it was done as Don Siegel (director) wanted us to see how long and far Callaghan has been travelling to find the killer.

Overall I would give this movie 3.5/5 and would recommend! Even if this is not your kind of movie just watch it for the partnership of Eastwood and Robinson who are fantasic!!!

It’s easy to get lost in this film with all the excitement. Going in I thought the philosophy here would drive me crazy, but it was tamer than anticipated. Sure, Harry wants to us completely forget about the constitution, but it’s not like the film is trying to showcase all hippies as psychos. Very problematic, but not detestable.

Filmmaking wise there is so much to love. Everything is top notch- performances, visuals, sound design, editing- every facet is up to eleven in terms of quality. There are so many beautiful shots, memorable edits, clever music choices… All in all, it’s worth checking this one out for those, like me, who haven’t before.

on a affaire à l'un des premier gritty cop movies, rempli de refs au tueur du zodiaque (qui sévissait encore à l'époque du film). le film ose effleurer l'imcompétence policère, la corruption et la bureaucratie faillible de la loi. la mise en scène est efficace et prenante, digne du nouvel hollywood, avec un personnage peut-être un peu trop iconisé. je comprends le culte que ça a généré dans le temps.

comme Ebert a dit, on peut y voir un aspect un peu facho. pis c'est vrai que le bro Clint y est carrément le juge, le jury et l'exécuteur en règlant tout avec son gros gun. mais ça me paraissait surtout être un dilemme que le film voulait soulever plutôt que des actions mises en valeur. j'aime à penser que sur le spectre des vigilantes, ce film penche plus du côté Prisoners que Punisher.

je préfère y voir une sorte de James Bond de la classe ouvrière. bref le film a de l'allure en criss.
