I really wanted to like Blue Room. The premise had promise... an indie rock band called Rebel Rebel, composed of socially aware but sheltered teens, gets arrested after a night of celebrating at a bar. Instead of being processed the usual way, dinala sila sa Blue Room... a sketchy VIP holding cell na parang lounge ng mga privileged offenders, complete with dirty cops, bribery, and twisted negotiations.
It’s clearly trying to say something about corruption, power, privilege, and the hypocrisy of activism when it’s no longer convenient. On paper, it should’ve worked. Pero in execution? I honestly couldn’t connect... not with the story, and sadly, not even with the characters.
The film paints a very clear picture of how rotten the system is. Pero kapag lahat ng authority figure ay masama, tapos lahat ng bida ay confused, the moral tension kind of dies. Walang nuance.
Their acting felt flat and unsure.
Yung dialogues, medyo pilit. Yung band dynamic, kulang sa chemistry. And for a story that should've been urgent, nakakabagot siya in some parts. It had the grit but lacked the emotional weight.
Kung may saving grace man, it’s the idea itself. The concept of a Blue Room... a liminal space between punishment and privilege is powerful.
Blue Room wants to be bold and confrontational. But sadly, it ends up being more preachy than powerful.
