love the messages/symbolism the movie gave but it was too short, something was missing to give it that depth but overall not an entirely bad movie.

im usually high on films with Jordan Peele’s involvement but this one missed the mark in my opinion. it had some interesting moments that captured my attention. the first 45 minutes of the film was truly captivating with subtle details and visual cues but after that everything felt stale. Marlon Wayans performance exceeded my expectations, as he along with costar Tyriq Withers bought this film life. Although their individual performances were on point the overall film felt like it was trying too hard to make something out of a concept that truly wasn’t there, like they were grasping at straws. i love the idea of the film but the execution left me a bit disappointed in some areas. the film wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t as good as it could’ve been. ill probably give it another watch somewhere down the line.

Ever since this was announced I’ve been waiting on Him. Outside of Superman it was probably my most anticipated movie of the year. A football horror movie produced by Jordan Peele? That combo had me curious from the start, and honestly we need way more sports-horror movies like this.

For most of its runtime I was really into it. The first two acts strike a cool balance between unsettling, almost surreal visuals and bursts of comedy. The camera work stood out — those tight eye close-ups, the zooms, and the X-ray-style shots showing blood and gnarly injuries were all super unsettling. The build-up of tension worked and the relationship between Cameron and his idol Isaiah gave the story a surprising amount of heart.

The final act is where it lost me a little. I will say The red-eye on the ceiling with all those people watching before the showdown looked great, but the actual fight between Cameron and Isaiah was kind of clunky and the shaky cam made it worse. By the time the field massacre scene happened it started feeling a bit goofy. I just think the ending could’ve been handled better. Still, even with a wobbly finale, Him is a very solid movie. I enjoyed it overall, and I’d love to see more filmmakers take chances on weird genre mash-ups like this.
