No Country for British MenTrainspotting may be more well written and get catch that angst to absolute perfection, but Shallow Grave is just so well constructed and executed to perfection that it is difficult to overlook. All three of the leads are special when it comes to characters, they are so hateful that you want to see what they get into, you want to see them fail but you want to see at least one of them to get what they want, and it makes a subversive turn that is fun to see unfold. Again, Trainspotting as a film is better, but Shallow Grave enhances a feel of excitement and worry that makes it ultimately a blast in the dark comedy genre.
