I'll admit that I love to pick things apart; I'll gladly accept being called a nitpicker when it comes to movies. Stay on Board is a very human and small scale story that isn't trying to be this grandiose "everything for everyone" thing like 90% of these kind of docs go for. I love how intimate and personal the story is. Although it isn't a long documentary, it gives Leo plenty of time to breathe and share their story in their own terms at their own pace. There really aren't any missteps that I can point out. I didn't like the soundtrack and I thought the score was overly dramatic when it wasn't called for and I'd really have liked an epilogue that gave us an idea of where Leo is headed, but nothing that detracts from the experience. It's raw and eye opening in ways that I wasn't really prepared for; we get to witness a lot of big moments in their life. With a Netflix original, I was expecting a lot more fakeness, fluff, and force-feeding, but this doesn't do any of that. I will never fully understand Leo's journey, but I'm glad they offered me a window into a life so different than mine without trying to shame me for it.
