I know it’s a silent film, I’m making my way through the top 250 movies on IMDB. I actually didn’t mind it, it was mildly entertaining and funny. It kind of reminded me of like a circus clown or a high school play, can be entertaining but a little cringe, still fun though.

I didn’t expect this film to be actually funny, but here I am, 102 years later, smiling at almost every scene. I was completely mesmerized throughout its whole runtime as the production was incredible. The acting, editing, stunts, theatrics, camera work, and every aspect was fire and aged like fine wine. Buster Keaton was definitely cooking, and I can’t wait to explore more of his works.

It goes without saying that this is a spectacular film. Even after 101 years, it manages to capture a timeless sense of lighthearted humor, with some practical effects that become increasingly impressive when you realize the technical restrictions that could’ve impacted this. I mean, this was 6 years after WWI ended, the world was in a place of transformation and struggles, and Keaton still manages to deliver pure, unfiltered joy through film. My favorite gag must be the bit with the billiards. The payoff is flawless irony. That’s just one of dozens of spectacular gags, though. Keaton was quite a guy.
