What if we became queer slavic witches living in the woods with strong dislike for misogyny?
But if I were to be a bit serious; I truly love movies that call out issues of my own country, the "traditional" life and it's gender roles. Someone I know has told me many times that men haven't treated women terribly in Slovakia in the past and that is just such a lie. Men have been as terrible to women as pretty much anywhere else. Unfortunately, many carry that to today's time too.
Sometimes I truly feel that people are socially set back, as if stuck decades in the past, if not more. This doesn't even seem to be rare, especially in the country. I genuinely dislike so many traditions. The whole Easter Monday whipping and water splashing just so men could get their "prize" and women would be "pretty and healthy" always seemed so ridiculous and degrading to me.
I like that this movie approached the ignorance and the want to stay set back, if I can call it such.
I'd much rather be a weird queer witch than a sex toy wife to a man that beats his children.
Honorable mention: I am not a huge fan of orgy scenes, but the one in this movie was certainly very interesting. Just something about a bunch of humans glowing in middle of the night in the woods. Quite whimsical and folkloric. Lovely and disturbing at the same time.
