A stunning, staggering, incredibly unsettling expose of Woody Allen's heinous actions. There is hard evidence shown here that he did abuse Dylan Farrow and groom Soon-Yi Previn, and got away with it. Mia Farrow's not perfect either, but she didn't use her clout to ruin careers and lives like Woody did. The allegations made towards him in this documentary, which I knew a little about beforehand, are more disturbing than I imagined. I don't care that he made good films and is a pop culture icon, I don't care anymore about separating the art from the artist (I mean he did make a film where he outed himself as a pedophile and everyone loved it), he should not still be free and working today, he should be blacklisted and behind bars like Harvey Weinstein. Higher-ups in the industry, and reviewers on this site as well, should be ashamed to have supported him especially after the #MeToo movement took off. The amount of people who still say "Woody Allen is innocent", even on this godforsaken site, is astounding and they had better change their thinking. It makes me so angry that the system has continued to enable and give platforms to predatory men like Woody Allen, who still denies the allegations despite multiple obvious clues to his guilt. If you like his films, that is okay and I will not change that, but if you continue to defend Woody Allen's actions in his personal life (I am talking to you, Alec Baldwin, Bill Maher, among several others), I don't want much to do with you. I will always stand with Dylan Farrow.
I've seen critiques of this documentary being one-sided and not consulting Soon-Yi, Woody or Moses. While that's unavoidable as it's from Dylan's point of view, a lot of these critiques come from defenders of Allen, and so don't have as much validity as they could with a less pressing subject.
Yes, I have seen and enjoyed several of Allen's films, particularly Annie Hall and Midnight in Paris, I even remember enjoying Antz as a kid, and am interested in viewing a few of his other works. However, I have made a vow: if I am to see a Woody Allen film again, I am not streaming it, going to a revival screening, or buying it on physical media, but I am pirating it. It would be hypocritical of me to condemn Allen's actions while also supporting the man, and so I will stop giving him royalties from continued streams and purchases of his work in solidarity with Dylan and Ronan Farrow.
