It’s very rare that a piece of media makes me feel like I’m apart of a friend group, a social circle or a world in general. But Azumanga Daioh has me thinking that I’ll miss „hanging out“ with all of these lovable oddballs.
I’ll miss Chiyo being a literal prodigy and genius while still being a gullible 10 year old, I’ll miss Kagura being loud to hide that she also just is a sensitive and self conscious girl, I’ll miss Tomo being just as loud but also just an idiot, I’ll miss Osaka being an airhead and Yomi being the reasonable one, I’ll miss Sakaki being obsessed with cute stuff while acting all cool.
The rest of the cast is just as quirky and fun but for the sake of the review I’ll limit myself to the main girls.
And we can’t forget that despite them being the heart of the show the characters aren’t the only thing they hat make Azumanga Daioh into a classic of the genre.
The humor is weird and unique, the music is genuinely some of the best and most fitting any anime has to offer and the animation is underatedly funny.
But it’s not only humorous. There are genuinely tender and heartwarming moments scattered in between the chaotic vignettes and crazy scenarios and those moments make this anime feel real and truly positive.
