a good video essay miniseries from netflix and it's one of my best discoveries on the platform, idk why people on imdb hate it but i'm glad people on letterboxd seem to like it more, cause it might not be the best video essay about cinema or films ever but it's actually interesting and informative, i wish more people watch this cause it's so under the radar

i really enjoyed this, a nice easy series to watch about movies, definitely added a few movies onto my watchlist after this… it was interesting and fun.

i particularly enjoyed the episodes: ‘summer of the shark’, the perspective of being a girl and enjoying cinema was just really nice to follow along with and relate to. also the episodes: ‘but i don’t like him’ and ‘the duality of appeal’… all three peaked my interest by a lot. it’s a good watch for those who also enjoy movies and even those studying it

Episode 1: I can’t really relate since I'm not from this time period

Episode 2: Great to hear Tony Zhou’s voice again. Hate that it spoils some of the movies I felt like watching (Sympathy for Mr Vengeance) but still a great analysis to a genre I love featuring movies I love

Episode 3: My favourite episode. Can’t stand it when people can’t watch unlikeable characters. Like dude you don’t have to resonate with them. Also this narrator is good. He mentions he’s a critic. I gotta read some reviews of his

I liked the episodes that focused solely on a specific aspect of filmmaking rather than an entire film per say. Those fit more in line with what I was expecting from the series. Definitely intriguing, but I hope for there to be a bit more of a connected through line in the second season (if we were to get one).
