Exploring what happens over one school term in an average Australian high school, this mockumentary brings to life Jonah, a 13 year old mischievous schoolboy from Tonga with the odds stacked against him; Mr G, an ego-driven drama teacher with delusional showbiz dreams; and Ja’mie, a private schoolgirl on a student exchange, set to make her mark on Summer Heights High.

***“Drama changes lives.”

“If thats being disruptive, then… fuck you. That’s not disruptive that’s entertainment.”***

Jonah’s teacher: “Do you know what the letter ‘T’ looks like, Jonah?” That scene always makes me tear up. Yes children like, Jonah are very frustrating but you CAN NEVER MOCK OR TEASE A CHILD! I work with children and my coworkers do this and it makes me so angry how can you see a child and insult them to their face? The fact that after he is expelled instead of cleaning out his locker he goes straight to Gumnut Cottage because he knows he is safe and understood there.

“Except Mrs. Palmer who is mad. And I am fully grateful for her for wasting her time with me. Now I can read.”

***“Public schools rock!”

As someone who went to an Australian public school I can confirm this is accurate. My high school drama teacher was like Mr. G.

I love at the end how we think Jonah has grown as a person and has matured until we see he has spray painted dick-tation all over the school and on everyone’s cars classic Jonah.
