I really related to the characters when one was saying they were bored and begged for some action. Me too buddy, me too. I have two split the movie into two parts. The movie making is fucking spectacular and the acting was spot on. I never questioned the authenticity of the sets, the action, or the characters. I felt the cramped claustrophobia of the submarine and the fear and desperation of it's inhabitants. All of that stuff is great, the problem is that the story is very, very dry and boring. Three and a half fucking hours and there is maybe an hour and a half of actual plot. The other two hours are empty or action or drama. The ending is amazing and a great choice, but everything leading up to it is a chore. It's nearly impossible to connect with the characters, bad enough that I couldn't tell you the name of a single character and if you showed me their face, I may recognize it, but I wouldn't even be able to tell you what their job was. If the goal was to have the audience experience the tedium of being cramped in the submarine with nothing to do, congratulations, but you still made a boring movie.
