this is such a well put together docu-series. super tight and every subject connects back to each other. can you compliment a filmmaker’s ability to “world build” in a documentary about the real world? if so, compliments to jane preston for building the world of fashion, which really is its own tiny universe. this series is full of your typical “and no one else was doing this before!” but to be fair, they weren’t doing this before the 90s. this series covers a lot of ground and it does give us a decent overview of this specific point, so i’ll give it grace. however, i would’ve liked to see more about how the fashion world impacted or reflected the ‘real’ world. i also think it could’ve benefited from discussing how the 90s eventually lead to what we see and wear today, aside from the met gala. how did we go from manscaped g-strings to branded cottagecore conservatism? maybe that’s a doc for another day.
