I'm sorry but I really love them having touched some feminist topics. The Grandmother is such a girl's girl as well!
(I'm just confused... if the Emperor really wanted the Empress to be buried with him because he was scared she'd turn like Wu Zetian then I'd would want to kill him aswell?? 😭)
Anyways, this is the perfect relationship. Dou Zhao is strong, smart and capable and Song Mo is not threatened by it at all. Mutual support, mutual trust, mutual love. What I love most is that Dou Zhou saw herself in that one flower that could survive in all conditions but when Song Mo asked for her hand in marriage he said something along the lines of "I do believe it can thrive on it's own. But I also believe that with someone to lean on, it could grow even stronger." For me it showed that Dou Zhou was perfectly capable of overcoming every obstacle herself but with the right person, Song Mo, she was able to to handle those obstacles even easier/better. No words can explain how much I love this dynamic 🫶🏻

in all seriousness, this is a beautifully crafted show. I’m not that well versed in cdramas, especially in period pieces, BUT this was a great introduction. literally no notes.
