Definitely would read the manga so soon. Trigun probably more like No-gun. This anime had so much possiblity to pick on from each perspective. Trigun's vibe could be breakdown in by this 3 lead character's moral ideologies. (Spoiler Alert!)

The Main Protagonist: Vash the Stampede: Radical Pacifism (Deontology). He believes killing action are inherently wrong, regardless of the consequences. In The world of "kill or be killed" desert. Vash’s refusal to kill often puts innocent people at risk, which is the primary criticism leveled against him by his allies and enemies alike.

The Main Villain: Knives Millions: Social Darwinism & Misanthropy. He views humanity as inherently destructive, selfish, and inferior. To him, wiping out the human race is an act of "cleaning" the planet. His cruelty stems from a twisted love for his own kind (the Plants). He believes they are being enslaved by humans and justifies genocide as "liberation."

The Lead Protagonist: Nicholas D. Wolfwood: Moral Realism & Pragmatism. He believes that in a cruel world, you must sometimes kill the "wolves" to protect the "lambs." To him, Vash’s pacifism is a luxury that only someone as skilled as Vash can afford. He constantly challenges Vash with the question: If you let a killer live and they kill again, are you responsible for those deaths?.

This is showing how these 3 characters morality is collide each other makes them and the anime more interesting each style for you to choose on. The anime is not just about gun shoot and gunsling This is about a clash of contrasting ideologies in a barren and cruel world. Its all about Survival.

I cannot say enough how much I love Trigun, the manga will forever be my favourite iteration ofc.. but this version does encapsulate the themes of it pretty well despite only having half the source media to do so too. I definitely don’t think it’s perfect, but it has some insane highs (and lows but..). 

I think the main thing this gets so well is the range of Vash, it keeps that core idea of ‘grinning just to bear the pain’ to the extreme that Vash does. It shows his genuine need to stay kind and keep his pacifist ideals, and it shows wonderfully just how linked this mindset is to his guilt about Rem, the fall etc. And (as in the manga lmao) having Wolfwood parallel Vash in ideals is perfect, they’re both incredibly flawed and each thematically compliments the other perfectly. Wolfwood’s background is ofc different to the manga but I think the core principle of his character is good. 
Knives too, is sympathetic enough, again backstory a little different but it’s nice to see a more gradual change in behaviour. Tho I think adult knives could’ve been fleshed out better. 
Milly & Meryl are veryyy up and down, they get reduced to ‘women’ and/or love interests way too much tho I’m not sure what I expected. Just generally this struggles with aspects of misogyny, but that’s not surprising.

Trigun is one of my essential 90s anime series alongside Neon Genesis Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop. Based of the Manga by Yasuhiro Nightow Trigun is a quite an experience. The series starts of lighthearted and comedic but as it goes forward the series gets darker and almost goes into horror territory. Plus the themes and questions this show brings up is really strong. 

The character design here is one of the best ones what can I say, which of the main characters have different backstory, but in the end they accepted one man’s ideology inspired by his actions. The soundtrack is just amazing.
