There is genuinely something so beautiful, intimate, and bittersweet about this work of art— not only does it cover queerness, it does so through an intersectional lens; it shows the life of Sícaru and her struggles being Oaxaca-indigenous (Zapotec), queer in Latin America (Muxe), a sexual assault survivor, & an immigrant in the United States.
I truly enjoyed the storyline of Sícaru’s journey, from her upbringing in Oaxaca as a child and post-migration as an adult who returns back to Oaxaca. Each character had their own stories, ambitions, and personalities which added onto the drama and plot of the story. I cannot tell you how many times I have cried over each of the main characters.
I think it also does an amazing job depicting sensitive topics such as trauma, and Sícaru’s experience with SA and mistreatment for being queer spoke to me on so many levels.
While it does critique intersectional struggles, the mystery plot behind Sícaru’s and Erik’s secret is so intriguing!!!!
Overall, I love this series so much and it’s so beautiful to see more representation of queer & indigenous communities in Latin America.
amazing depiction of queer indigenous.
