definitely not an easy watch.
domestic violence remains an unresolved problem today, and there are still very few works that address it properly. for anyone who’s experienced something similare, it’s hard to just pass by.
i can’t say i’m fully satisfied. the main message is simple and important: “don’t stand by, don’t turn a blind eye to abuse”. yet what made me uneasy is who carries that message - eunsu. she becomes the savior for her best friend, driven by her own guilt and past. from the very first episodes, it’s clear that she grew up in abuse herself. eunsu is a victim, just like her mother, but the drama makes her feel almost responsible. a child in that situation isn’t at fault for being scared or looking away. she was already doing everything she could to keep herself, her younger brother, and her mother safe.
i’m glad this story exists, but i wish eunsu’s suffering had been explored more. growing up like that isn’t just guilt - a child also lives in constant fear, walking on eggshells, never knowing what will set off violence. that part of her experience deserves as much attention as the message about standing up to abuse.
