Me, a Minnesota Vikings fan, having literally zero connection to the Cowboys and never having felt even the slightest interest in the so-called America’s Team, simply because I was born too late to really know about that era. Still, this documentary had such a great draw that I ended up sitting there watching until half past three after turning on „just one episode” following a movie night with my brother earlier that day.
Through its numerous montages and the use of real TV footage, it shows what everyone loves about football.
Despite this, you can’t ignore the fact that the documentary feels very much like a glorification of Jerry Jones, or like an attempt by a Cowboys fan to flatter JJ into eternal greatness, so he will finally quit his job as CEO. It’s pretty obvious that Jerry Jones is largely responsible for the franchise’s enormous economic success, but also for its athletic averageness over the last few decades.
This documentary didn’t turn me into a Dallas guy, but it is a great presentation of the franchise’s history and the interplay of so many great and fascinating athletes and coaches, all with their own personal issues and egos. Individually, those egos always had the potential to kill the whole franchise but together, they formed America’s Team.
PS: The playlist is amazing
