I originally thought that this was a primarily USA documentary, so having to see Nic Batum’s goofy face on my screen for like half of it was pretty disappointing. But other wise this was really good. As an avid lakers fan, and specifically LeBron stan, it’s annoying how much more I like Curry and Durant now.

Such a privilege to be able to watch this team USA. I can tell my kids I watched Curry really torch mfs. 

I love getting this insight on my favorite players. They’re really like that. I would be scared even going against KD. FYI, KD is the the greatest Olympic basketball player of all time.

It was so interesting watching each team prepare. To see LeBron running sets in scrims, and really realizing that there are levels to this. Jokic being a leader and a coach, you love to see it. I really despise when people say that Jokic doesn’t like basketball, or that he «doesn’t» try. He lives for these moments. 

These people are the best in their countries. France analyzing the greats we’re used to watching, while also shining light on other Olympic greats such as Nic Batum, it’s beautiful to see. GOATs, all of them

never mix up a good documentary and good source material. and though it's clear Court of Gold is so predominantly the latter, it's difficult to dislike watch some talk about these stellar players.

so i watched Court of Gold hoping for, well i’m actually not sure what i expected. perhaps more of a retrospective on the whole affair — but this documentary only offers the most surface-level take as per its “every country wants to win” narrative… like no shit?

and it sucks, because i think there’s a lot to unpack about the (1) implications of dwhite substituting for kawhi (per his injury), (2) curry tag-teaming it with former warrior kd or fellow all-time lebron, (3) the implications of james harden not being here (as well as snubs like jalen brunson, jaylen brown, trae young, donovan mitchell), (4) an outlook as to how this is the last time we'll see some of the oldheads play on the olympics stage, (5) and the stuff i didn’t know about this.

maybe these athletes wouldn’t have been authorized to make such comments due to pr reasons, but then the solution was to keep this footage vaulted for a commentary years down the line. oh, and we should’ve kept the scope locked on just america.

that being said, this film has made me appreciate bam adebayo, guerschon yabusele, nicolas batum, victor wembanyama, bogdan bogdanović, and steph curry all that more. go spurs!
