Gomen-pi.
i wanted to like this so badly, and i did in the first 2 episodes—i felt impressed and excited—but, in the rest of the episodes and at the ending, it felt moral-less and flat.
i'm so frustrated because the animation is soo peak cinema and the potential i felt was unmatched.
what really doesn't make sense to me is how none of the characters show any real growth at any point. and i also cannot believe how much this is blindly overly appreciated.—pain is stacked on top of itself over and over again, trauma after trauma, but none of it is truly explored and overcome, in fact, the last timeline, where Shizuka and Marina cry together remembering (smh) Takopi, feels surreal and not in character at all.
the things i liked were how there's no real antagonist because no human being is 100% good or evil, and how Takopi comes to understand this concept through his innocent and happy alien mind.
overall this tries to be something meaningful by using the contrast between the style of drawing and the story it wants to tell as a shock value.
to me, it didn't work!
