the single most overrated thing i have ever seen, im not saying it is bad by any means but its nowhere near the standard its held at, every episode plays out exactly the same, there are tons of cliches which contribute to its predictability. it is extremely oversaturated with side characters and side plots that follow the same blueprint tenma arrives somewhere, meets troubled people, johan’s influence is revealed, tragedy happens, then the story moves on, it also go to the point where the main cast becomes a cameo in an episode and you just lose interest in them, furthermore you also lose interest in the side characters quickly after realising they all share the same fate of eventually dying or never making an appearance again. also the anime spends so much time building johan into this almost mythical figure with a genius plan that ended up being much smaller than it was advertised as. the amount of deus ex machinas is also insane, everyone is somehow connected to someone central to the plot, everyone is exactly where they need to be at the exact time by accident, the timing of everything is perfect etc. the anime also very clearly takes a political stance, even though it tries to hide it, criticizing the eastern bloc and its ideology whenever it gets the chance, completely ignoring actual history
