not to discredit the beauty of the entire show, but there is just something particularly special about the opening of maasaki yuasa's Kaiba. i dont know whether its the beautifully ethereal song from Seira, or is it yuasa's gorgeously hand-drawn animation, or just that everything in the opening is choreographed so elegantly, but all of them seems to work together to create this nostalgic and cathartic atmosphere that feels so close to home. when i first watched the first episode, watching the opening seems like an out-of-body experience, so beautiful, yet melancholic, for a show that i have not even watched. and certainly does the opening do justice to what the show will become. yuasa will never fail you with his storytelling and eccentric animation. his ability to transform a thematic story of identity and the self into this quirky magical journey of a boy in a futuristic world where memories can be sold and bought, is by itself the definition of brilliance. it is safe to say that yuasa is one of my favorite directors of all time, and certainly, to my eyes, the picasso of anime.
