"Then what about me? What does the person Haruhi Suzumiya... mean to me?"
So glad I came back to finally watch this properly. Actually sat through Endless Eight instead of skipping it and I think I gained a greater appreciation for this show and its characters that way. In some ways it makes me think about my own life, only I've seen less aliens, time travellers and espers. It's by coincidence (or more accurately, manipulated probability by Haruhi) that these people even end up in the same place yet they end up going through so much together and building incredible bonds. I love genuine friendship and care, which is such a powerful theme of the show (and it's even stronger in the film). It helps that such a thing has brought about what is currently the best period of my life now. I might have to start reading the light novels because it's so tough to just stop there.
Watched in order D (as listed by Wikipedia) which is the chronological order using both seasons, but I swapped Someday in the Rain and Live Alive because I think the latter works better as final episode, because 'God Knows' is so hype to listen to and it ends with Kyon and Haruhi talking about what will happen in the next year, which we won't see in animation. The film is also a great ending but I already rewatched it for Christmas. I'll also be logging this for yesterday because that was when I binged this mostly and only finished now because I got a little held up. I'll continue to binge anime through this month as I did last year, rewatching a few things but also finding new stuff (especially recommended stuff, so please recommend!). I also hope everyone is enjoying their Letterboxd 2025 Summary. 310 films, 306 reviews, 589 hours, top actor Noah Centineo with 17 films (I was torturing myself) and top director Hideaki Anno with 8 films for me.
It feels strange to be saying goodbye to Haruhi Suzumiya again.
