Long Movie Marathon 2.0 Part I
“movies would become the worlds greatest mirror and sometimes, a hammer too, that would bash reality into shape.”
many times i have been asked “if you could recommend 1 film to someone thats interested in cinema, what would it be?” and most times my answer has been Bondarchuk’s ‘War and Peace’, Tarkovsky’s ‘Stalker’, Kobayashi’s ‘Harakiri’, or something along those lines, now i can say without a doubt, this film has ousted whoever sat upon that throne.
to call this movie comprehensive would be nothing short of a disrespectful disservice. i was astounded by the detail, the knowledge, the information, and how it was formatted, even though it was 15 hours and i watched it in a single sitting, i couldn’t help but be intensely fascinated and enthralled by the journey. no stone was left unturned, every single event or moment of innovation was covered with brilliant detail, all points were relevant to the plot, every episode had a concrete theme that was followed and not abandoned, it was entirely cohesive and beyond interesting.
i believe this “film” to be a true vital watch. i see it as a love letter to cinema. its a beautiful recap of what started as a discredited art form, that then quickly transformed into the greatest medium of expression this planet has ever seen. i get it, its 15 hours, but its also split into 15 parts. i would by no means call the viewing experience arduous, if anything its the antithesis of arduous, so i really hope this masterpiece starts to garner a bit more attention. it really, really deserves it.
