It's not as simple as it seems to be an acclaimed movie star. Working with people requires dedication, tenacity, skills, and also a crafty intellect. Even if someone may demonstrate their accomplishment through multiple accolades and awards, the harsh realities of society ultimately lead to even the most recognized movie star experiencing sadness and solitude in her darkest hours. There is no one to offer support or consolation; only a melancholy that spreads like illness throughout one's spirit. That's a cruel thing that would happen to anyone, but hey, it's life after all. All about Eve was the very first Bette Davis film I encountered and I vividly recall how much I cherished it. She embodied refinement and competence. My first viewing of Joan Crawford's filmography was Mildred Pierce, and I can still clearly recall how sensational she was in that performance. So as I grew to admire these amazing women, I became immediately interested in the film Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, in which they both had leading roles. I wasn't really aware of the backdrop until I watched this film, so I was shocked to find that Bette and Joan were at odds while they were filming it. There was a war between two of the greatest actresses of all time and it absolutely caught my eye and I needed more of their story. Then I found this gem, Feud. Feud (2017) is a visually spectacular, vibrant, and suspenseful TV show. Starring Susan Sarandon as Bette Davis and Jessica Lange as Joan Crawford would be arguably one of the best casting choices I have ever seen in my life. I literally yelled with joy to see Susan Sarandon in that role when she first debuted in the first episode as baby Jane. It was an amazing spectacle. The most fascinating fact is that Susan Sarandon was in her 70s when she portrayed 50-year-old Bette Davis, and yet she looked so much younger than the actual Bette Davis. Both of the actresses did really well in their roles, and they gave some unforgettable performances. If Bette and Joan had been alive, I'm sure they would have been so moved and delighted with their performances and this whole creation. I think this TV show did an absolutely great job of showing Bette and Joan as rivals, their jealousy, their struggles, and most importantly, how they secretly admired each other, and that was my favorite part. Apart from all the hectic drama they experienced together, they just wanted to be friends. It all sums up quite neatly in the last episode. I'm so thankful that this show exists with these wonderful actresses. Thank you, Ryan Murphy. Well, now I think I have a new purpose in life, and that is to watch all Bette Davis and Joan Crawford movies before I take my last breath. I admire and love these women so much!
