It’s The UK; Post-Rain Galore. Some Light Drizzle, Looming Thunder.
Banjo Donkey-Boy-Athon: The Return Film #18
I suppose this is more so TV Show #1 but whatever.
Fan-fucking-tastic. Perfect watch for a grey and gloomy day, the rain spitting down on the window. The hive-mind of reality television becoming a breeding ground for violence and the worst qualities of humanity. I’m not familiar with Charlie Brooker’s work since I’ve never stepped foot in the whole Black Mirror region but this was great, truly one of the best pieces of zombie-fiction out there. Ticks the desired boxes but capitalises on them in a more interesting way, what makes this work so well is how tapped into reality it is, the writing and performances grounding them within the chaos. Authenticity in surreal circumstances, every word spoken felt right, these are people. You could almost say it felt like watching reality television, looking through the glass, observing behind the screen. Even the unlikable characters are a pleasure to watch because of how real they feel, Andy Nyman particularly. It’s funny, it’s got heart, it’s got plenty of that zombie-gore goodness, it’s got Riz Ahmed, and it’s bleak as hell. It’s all the things I want, it’s all the things a zombie anything should be. Just go watch it people. You love zombies? Then you’re coming to the right place.
