Iv’e always thought that I tend to enjoy Alex Garland projects more than the average person but it seems like im alone in not enjoying this all that much. 

However it seems like my favorites of his which is Men and Warfare are a lot of peoples like least favorites for some reason. What makes those movies stand out to me is how focused they are in the presentation and story while his other movies it feels like they are doing several different things at the same time. Also Men and Warefare have by far the best story and characters. 

As for this show it had great visualls and sound design as you would expect from a Garland but I really couldn’t get invested into the story or the characters. And the main actress performance was sometimes bad but mostly worked. 
Very disappointing overall.

it's very ambitious. garland projects are usually either very to my liking or leave me more than unsatisfied. this is probably somewhere in the middle. I am probably overrating it a bit just because of my personal taste, but whatever. some very questionable performances, though I accredit that more to the directing/writing than to the individual actors. sonoya mizuno is so cool. I really enjoy the garland regulars for the most part. the rest of the cast also had some surprises in them (at least some). the show does seemingly skip character development for grander story beats and exploration of themes/concepts. it's noticeable, but I don't mind that much if I'm being honest. it comes together nicely, though I was somewhat struggling during the first few episodes, as the mysteries presented were not compelling enough to keep me fully hooked from the get-go. a downside is that the way everything unfolds seems very on the nose and also very self-referential and -important at times. especially because other media explores what is presented here in a much more thought provoking way. everything seems a bit too neatly laid out and obvious once you step back and evaluate. and that statue was ugly. they could have done a better job if I'm being honest. also devs is basically just the kwisatz haderach, but as a machine, with the irony of that not being lost on me.

If you threw this series into a coffee filter, took what was left [over] and turned it into a movie, it would certainly be something much more enjoyable to consume (following the same way Garland did in the past with Ex Machina).
