Initially i was confused why the creaters thought a 40% screen time for Zoe Kazan/Winona Ryder was going to work in a show that has to make sophisticated political deductions, dumbed down but still. To make it worse, for an alt-history story that has complete chaos happening wherever you look outside too much of the show happens in the interiors, dimly lit, unpleasant and and just flat out boring to watch. (first 4 eps)
It doesn’t help that the macro is updated mostly through radio, that quite honestly makes the perspective shift rather boring. Shit talking aside, what makes this show relevant and tick is how its also a cautionary tale for conservatives acting as political blankets. Specifically the last 2 episodes were quite focused and horrifying in their depiction of a smiley faced fascism that could be the direct result of a conservative ignorance. It feels plausible, unavoidable and worse : our own doing.
