***Mar del Plata Film Festival #2
A film that in itself is not to blame for the final result
120 minutes for a film that goes against all the construction of storytelling and external conflicts. I, as a bystander and spectator, understood the whole concept of using the OTS shot throughout the ENTIRE film, to be submerged, quite literally, alongside our character, but that did not make it good at all, quite in fact, I firmly believe it was a double edge sword that ended up going wrong unfortunately.
However, when the plot itself doesnt help that fact, one just does not feel empathy out of the characters. Specially when we have a protagonist that barely speaks or shows emotion in a context where we are not shown much else apart from her life, what she sees and seeks.
I must admit and was quite surprised by the performance of the girl, but didnt like some of the others. The shots were repetitive and even if we avoid that the plot and pace didnt help. Tons of scenes that could have been cut down and also reduce the film´s final duration by a mile.
I never check on my phone but at 1h 20 minutes in I had to check how much time was left. There were some very pretty scenes that made me smile but the buildup and script felt shallow, vague, with a character that just showcases her work, like if it were their life. And artistically its an interesting choice. The problem is that with the rhythm, how predictable everything was and the lack of a main problematic made it very boring and opaque. From the beginning it was quite obvious the girl was going to drop herself off a roof, and it did happen.
Still, quite decent, it tells a story and puts it through the end but just doesnt make the cut.***
