A rumination on the absolute end of humanity as we know it, by way of violent gang wars and nihilistic ramblings, with only the tiniest shred of hope at the end of the tunnel. People love to call Texhnolyze "the bleakest, most nihilistic, depressing, brutal anime ever" and they have every right to do so. This is dark, darker than vantablack. This series, while sometimes in an extreme state of ataraxia, is more often than not engulfed in a mix of noise, blood and chaos.
Taking the time out of my day to explain Texhnolyze is a fruitless endeavour. It's a show meant to be experienced knowing nothing about it going in. The way it disseminates the overarching narrative to the viewer is simultaneously lax in information and purposefully vague, but also overflowing in rich detail and key particulars that require the utmost attention. This is the only show/movie I've ever written notes about while watching and the only OTHER piece of media I've done this for (the other being Myst, that game is silly).
I could sit here all day and ramble on about the fine details of this, but I'd rather be purposefully vague. Now lemme throw up a couple of comparisons and descriptors purely for fun:
Glacial like Tarkovsky, melancholic like Synecdoche, New York, bleak like True Detective, oppressive like Half-Life 2, my new name is Based God, ice cream paint job
This is a guided trip through the pits of despair that will make you love life after watching it.
