(Review for both seasons)
I remember being obsessed with dinosaurs as a kid. And even though i've grown out of it as an adult now, i can still say that they're still hardcore asf, and this proves it. The animation is leagues above any other 2D work i've seen in recent years, the violence in this feels absolutely earned and it perfectly captures the harsch world we live in. Spear and Fang might also be two of my favorite protagonists of anything, their bond feels totally natural, we still understand what they say to each other, even if they don't exchange a single word between each other.
Speaking of which, silent storytelling is always a thing i'm up for. Show, Don't Tell as they say. I sometimes believe that stories with no dialogues can be leagues better than those who have. It is always refreshing to see stories not botehring with words, especially when ours absolutely depend on it. It helps bringing the brutality and horror of nature in an easily understandable way.
It brings us back to the days of Ralph Bakshi or Heavy Metal, while still feeling like a moving Frank Frazetta painting and it is i think one of the aspects of the animation that bring the characters to life. 2D animation in here seems to have been made specifically for this world, as it totally immerses us into this barbaric world and lets us breathe for a few moments most of the time. Last point here, i just wanted to say that in my opinion, this further proves why Genndy's style doesn't work in 3D.
