Phantom Thread

"Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick." Phantom Thread is easily a 5-star film for me. Honestly, it would sit comfortably in my top four, but something about having two PTA films in there feels a little funny, even though he’s probably earned it. This movie is a parade of favourites: one of my favourite scores ever, a hypnotic piece of music, some of my favourite production design and lighting, each room and shadow arranged with almost unnatural precision, some of my favourite costume design, obviously, some of my favourite cinematography, elegant and razor-sharp but never showy, and performances that remain some of my favourite not just in PTA's filmography, but in any film, period. It’s a movie I return to and find new details every time, new emotional shadings every time.
