Dude
tldr: I love this movie for the reasons mentioned below. it is flawed but screw it cuz PR da goat. (disclaimer: if you do intend to read the full review, please give me 5-10 business days to read thru it again and edit it for better comprehension)
wanted to start this review off by addressing all the dumbasses who post all the "Gagan is literally me" reels on Instagram and push those dumbass reels to my feed. yeah no oka ex gurinchi respectful ga matladadam chetha kaadu kaani Gagan laa nachina ammayi kosam fake marriage cheskuntaaranta chal
I feel like many people fail to understand that it wasn't just Gagan's love that led him to getting married to Kundhana, we should also realize the fact that Gagan and Kundhana practically grew up together and had been best friends even before Kundhana asked him out. what was Gagan supposed to do, leave his best friend at the altar and let her get murdered by her influential, casteist dad with a history of honor killing? 😭
what caught my eye this time was the way both Gagan AND Kundhana wanted to support each other to the best of their ability. I feel like a majority of us got the wrong idea out of Kundhana's character esp after Gagan's friend calls her out for calling Gagan a joker, which was valid but she wasn't as selfish as we ended up thinking from that scene, in my honest opinion.
when Pardhu tells Kundhana and Gagan about the marriage idea at the altar, when Gagan leaves Kundhana doesn't say a single word, she just sheds a tear and leaves it at that CUZ SHE UNDERSTOOD THE EXTENT TO WHICH THE SITUATUON CAN GO FOR GAGAN. later during the visa rejection scene, Kundhana first tries to explain to Gagan that she wanted to keep the baby, but when Gagan explains that it would make his side of the story even more complicated, she agrees to go thru an abortion even after she knew that she would not be able to bear a baby in the future, just to protect HIS peace. ask any woman out there and every woman will say it ain't easy to give up on their wish to have children (if they do intend to have children). later in the film, we see Kundhana in the hospital for delivery. I'm sure every about-to-be mom out there would want her husband near her and to support her when she is about to deliver her child, alaantidi she didn't even get the opportunity to have Pardhu be the first person to hold the baby. she had to have Gagan by her side, and what made me tear up was when she held her best friend's hand and said, "nuvvu pakkana unte dhairamga untundi ra". and Gagan ended up being the first person to hold Mallannaswamy ❤️
after Gagan's friend tells Kundhana that Gagan had feelings for her, she was in shock mostly because of the fact that Gagan was not sacrificing so much for friendship; he was doing it out of love. what always melts my heart is the scene when PR ends up crying in front of Kundhana and expressing everything he was going thru even though he didn't utter a single word about it, and the way Kundhana handled that scene by explaining that the timing was the main culprit and "ee Devadas, daridra-das getup theesi, pogaru ga Dude laaga undara" was so mature and so lovely. even at the beginning of the film, when Kundhana's dad offers Gagan a cheque to do smth with his life, Kundhana was the only person to defend him and call him an entrepreneur, and seeing her say that line to him felt so natural and healing. I feel like for such a scene there's so much scope to screw up by including romance or something along those lines there but all we see in that scene is true friendship 🫶🏼 to me, Kundhana was a superwoman for going thru so much and handling the situation so maturely, in the best way possible (without getting anyone killed). she did everything she could've done.
I also hated on Pardhu when I first watched the movie and I apologize for my actions. Pardhu is a gem of a person. sure, he is immature I also laughed when Gagan said "jail okay", but guys Pardhu never said no to Kundhana and always respected her decision. when Kundhana got pregnant, I personally thought Pardhu was gonna flee out of Tamilnadu or smth but despite the mess, he was still there. when Kundhana said that she wanted to keep the baby, Pardhu also started convincing Gagan to let her keep the baby just cuz she wanted the baby. when Kundhana was in the hospital, he had to stay calm when everyone was trying to send in Gagan when it was him, as the baby's father, who should've been there AND sent Gagan in to support his girlfriend to the best of his ability at the time. when Kundhana threw her passport in the air and wanted to set Gagan up with someone, Pardhu never said anything against Kundhana's decision and even went with her for Gagan's dates (+1 for handling Mallannaswamy every single time). at the very end, when Kundhana asks Gagan to take her to her dad before she leaves to Canada Pardhu didn't say no. he was always Kundhana's biggest supporter, and even tho he's kinda immature, I can totally see why Kundhana went thru so much for a guy like Pardhu 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼 (btw, namaskaram fine shyt)
another thing I loved about this watch was the parallels and the full-circle moments. from (accidentally) untying his ex's mangalsutra to tying his crush (who doesn't have feelings for him) a mangalsutra, from Aishwarya taking a Polaroid photo of Kundhana and Gagan together to her taking a Polaroid photo of her and Gagan together, from proposing in public and making Gagan say yes due to the circumstances to proposing at his house and making Gagan say yes in accordance with his own will, from trying to defend himself from goons at his ex's wedding to attacking the goons to save Pardhu, there were so many parallels that represent the journey that Gagan went thru throughout the film, and who doesn't love a good character arc? :)
I do agree that the movie is flawed in many ways, but in this watch the pros totally outweighed the flaws. I just love this film to the core, and I just wanted to say that THOTTA DEI PATTASANA VEDIKIRA 10000 WALA 😎💪🏼
