Sentimental Value

First watch I loved it, was definitely among my favorite 5-10 films of the year. Second watch brought it into competition for favorite of the whole lot. Everything came together, everything worked. Don’t think I can put into words how much more it hit me on an emotional level this go around, particularly the scene between the two sisters after Nora reads the screenplay. So tender and poignant, I feel like I’ve known these people my entire life.  Also want to add how underrated the humor is here too. Any time Cory Michael smith shows up on screen, the Netflix interview, the IKEA stool. Not sure there’s any place on earth that’s better to watch a DVD of The Piano Teacher be gifted to a 9 year old than the Music Box.
